Have you been involved in a leading-edge library 2.0 project which has made an impact?

It doesn’t matter if you are from a large or small library, as long as you are prepared to share your experience using a maximum of 20 slides, 20 seconds each for a maximum of 6 minutes.

Showcase presentations aim to provide delegates of the UnConference the chance to view successful library application of web 2.0 tools.

The result: 6-minute talks with jam-packed, significant visuals, and everyone asking for more.

Web 2.0: Now what?

Great Unconference everyone. Thanks for coming!

Following last years' successful Unconference, this year we will be discussing, sharing, questioning, challenging Web 2.0, Now what?

Where: State Library of Queensland, Cultural Centre, Stanley Place, South Bank.	When: Thursday 20 November 2008 9.00am-4.30pm (coffee available from 8.45, post-conference drinks from 4.30pm)
Cost: $40 per person, includes all day tea and coffee, lunch and post-conference drinks. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements on your Registration Form.	Who: Anyone who is interested and has some prior knowledge of Library 2.0 and is also prepared to share ideas, experiences and thoughts.

Keynote speakers:

Erik Boekesteijn and Jaap van der Geer [http://wordpress.shanachietour.com/about/ ] from Holland DOK, Delft Public Library will be delivering a keynote presentation.

Erik Boekesteijn works in the Communication and Innovation Department at DOK, the library concept center in Delft, the Netherlands. His work there includes marketing, promotion, and communication. He is also responsible for organizing events for adults and is head of organizing DOK Spettert, a summer camp. He is a member of the Innovation Group. Boekesteijn is working in DOK Studio and started the Shanachie Tour with colleague Jaap van de Geer. Together with van de Geer, he is also hired by other libraries to give advice on gaming and other means to make libraries ready for the 21st century. Boekesteijn has a degree in English and has specialized in the area of interpreter/translator. He followed his education at Rotterdam University

Mash It Up Short Film Festival July 2008

"A mashup is the alchemy of fusing music, noise, video and animation with your imagination."

It is the bringing together of new & traditional media be it video, photos, animation, music etc… and creating something new.

Mash It Up Short Film Festival is a Moreton Bay Regional Council Library Service project. It is a multifaceted arts based project that fuses technology with popular culture to inform, empower and support young people’s social and creative development.

The Mash it Up project started about 18 months ago as an opportunity to bring young people together and introduce them to emerging technology & social networking in a safe and creative way.

This led to the development and implementation of a project which has seen: · 90 young people aged between 12 and 22, participate in filmmaking workshops covering storyboarding, equipment handling (all equipment provided by the Council), film editing, and the safe use of social networking tools, such as, youtube and myspace.

Altogether 35 mashups created by 57 young film makers. The project has it’s own myspace page www.myspace.com/mashitup_filmfest and all the mashups are published on youtube. To view mashups on youtube, enter the search term “mashitup08”.

Mash It Up Short Film Festival was screened at Kallangur Community Centre, 5 July 2008.

Mash It Up is a collaborative venture between libraries, schools, community development and youth organisations, the Department of Communities, the State Library of Queensland and Sunshine Coast short film festival S.C.R.U.F.F.F.Y. Mash It Up is an example of the type of groundbreaking programming that Moreton Bay Regional Council offers to support young people’s core skill and creative development. The output and involvement by the community in the project has been truly amazing – the skill and talent demonstrated in the 35 entries is remarkable. Whole families have got involved in the project and it has significantly raised the profile and the value of the library service in our community.

According to Wikipedia a "Unconference is a facilitated, face-to-face, and participant-driven conference centered around a theme or purpose"

What is an unconference?
An unconference is like a conference with all the networking and discussion among colleagues but with very little of the formal presentation. Guided by a facilitator, participants create the agenda themselves, coming up with discussion topics of interest based on a given theme. Participants then choose which topics they wish to discuss and join that group. Topics are discussed informally for as long as the participants are interested. Participants can come and go from a discussion as they please.

The "Law of Two Feet" should also be explained here: if in a discussion group you have heard what you want to hear and said whatyou want to say, you are encouraged to quietly withdraw and become either a Butterfly or a Bumble Bee. A Bumble Bee joins another group, perhaps fertilising it while a Butterfly flits around, possibly the tea-table and joins other Butterflies for informal discussion - encourage Butterflies to note their learnings for everyone else. The Law of Two Feet is also an effective antidote to egotists who dominate discussion as people who feel excluded can simply depart, leaving the egotists to talk to themselves - or at least get the message.
